News Item – Brain Awareness Week includes lecture on dementia

As part of Brain Awareness Week, the Centre on Aging and Health at the U of R will have a guest speaker from Toronto talk about helping people with dementia.

Dr. Mark Chignell, who has a doctorate in mathematical psychology and a master’s in engineering, is professor of mechanical and industrial engineering at the U of T. He will be presenting the Brain Awareness Lecture. The title of his presentation is Creating a Sense of Purpose with Meaningful Tasks: How Can Technology Improve Quality of Life in People with Dementia?

He will talk about how appropriately-designed technology can improve the quality of life for people living with dementia, and how they can be provided with meaningful activities and engaging interactions.
