Canadians "pay a substantial amount of money for health care through the country’s tax system," according to the right-leaning Fraser Institute.
Although patients aren’t directly charged for treatments, or required to obtain private insurance, Canadian health care is funded through taxpayer money. And, the report says, the true cost of the public system may be surprising to some.
According to the report, the average family will contribute $11,735 in taxes for public health insurance in 2015.
