Background and Job Description
The Regional Geriatric Program of Toronto (RGP) supports a network of healthcare providers who care for frail older adults. The RGP builds capacity for senior friendly care through education, training, and strategic operational projects. The role would involve implementing new strategic initiatives to improve the quality of care and services delivered to older adults with frailty. These initiatives span across professions and sectors and are co-designed with stakeholders.
The RGP of Toronto is seeking a summer student research and data analyst with interest in the care of older adults and assessing the impact of the change ideas on wait times for our Specialized Geriatric Services (SGS) programs. More specifically, the summer student will be responsible for collecting the SGS wait times data through multiple sources, analyzing and evaluating the impact of the quality improvement initiatives and their effect on wait times.
Responsibilities
Working with the Directors and the SGS leaders, the summer student will:
- Conduct chart review and data extraction for data collection and collation
- Conduct data validation on raw data collection
- Conduct statistical analysis of datasets and ensure accuracy in analysis
- Process mapping with respect to wait times
- Use data modeling and business intelligence to support the RGP Network
- Develop, analyze and provide recommendations based on reported data to support RGP quality improvement initiatives and business case
- Present data through the use of data visualization and detailed reports and dashboards and tailor data presentations based on varied stakeholder needs
- Able to determine business insights and opportunities through the collection, assessment, analysis and visualization of data;
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in engineering, life sciences, medicine, computer science
Skills
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Access
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to plan, be alert, and resolve unexpected problems quickly and efficiently
- Ability to work as part of a team and independently
- Strong organization, and planning skills
- Ability to prepare period reporting documents for review and approval by supervisor/manager.
- Ability to analyse and interpret wait times information using Excel, MS Access and other tools
- Able to prepare and present data and reports to directors in a clear and succinct manner
- Good judgment, organizational skills, analytical and decision-making skills and recognized for problem solving
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain relationships
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge and experience in process mapping
- Maintains a positive attitude in the work environment
- Acts with tact and diplomacy when dealing with internal and external stakeholders
