“Denial is part of the human condition,” Dionne Aleman, a mechanical and industrial engineering professor and CHE affiliate at the University of Toronto, said. Her specialties include applying math to health-care information. “Being able to process risk is something humans are inherently not good at.”
Younger people should not be comforted by statistics that show they are less likely to end up in hospital or die because of COVID-19, she said.
