Not since mid-April has the province seen daily case numbers anywhere near what they are now. Non-essential businesses had been ordered closed, schools and outdoor amenities such as playgrounds, sports fields and picnic areas had been shuttered. Ontario was, in effect, at the beginning of what would prove to be a months-long lockdown.

Confused about the stark contrast? If so, that’s “perfectly understandable,” said Dionne Aleman, a University of Toronto professor, CHE affiliate and expert in pandemic modelling. And, it can lead to confusion about how serious the second wave is.
